Welcome to my site which is named ‘Awareness- The First Step to Healthy Living’. I believe the more aware we are of ourselves, others, and our inner lives, the more capable we are in making positive change.

I am a Registered Psychotherapist with over 20 years of experience. My main focus is Couples Counselling using the Developmental Model that includes the tasks of differentiation, the neuroscience of how the neural pathways of the brain change and grow, and, as a couple developing not only a deeper understanding of each other, but the ability to feel empathy. In this model, the stages of development are explored, and through individual goals, each person will be able to develop the emotional capacity to accept each others’ differences.

My second focus is on addictive behavior, an area that I have dedicated myself to in my entire career from harm reduction strategies to choosing abstinence. Again, in combatting an addiction, the brain needs rewiring in order for the individual to live a healthier life. Mental health work around past experiences and current coping mechanisms is addressed to explore the underlying reasons for addiction in an individual’s life.

I believe that an individual lives in a system, and that the system, whether family or otherwise, must be a safe place for the individual to thrive.

My background training and experience includes Dialectical Behavior Therapy, which offers skills to manage the mind, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which helps to figure out core beliefs that we have carried with us our entire lives, Solution Focused Therapy, which focuses on strengths and coping skills, and, Body Oriented Trauma Strategies, based on Polyvagal Theory, where the mind and body connect, creating more awareness as trauma is unlocked, processed, and successfully eradicated through our deep awareness of our emotional selves.

I believe that the therapeutic alliance is the most important part of therapy and that the use of humor and acceptance are paramount in helping individuals to make change. My empathy and compassion are a driving force in my work, as I strive to help individuals acquire healthier lives.
